Acting & Writing
As well as music, Al Chantrey is also an actor, character actor and writer. He is perhaps most well known for his character Mrs. Ellis from ‘The Mrs. Ellis Show‘. A crude and brash old lady. The series originally began in July of 2006 and ran for two seasons until 2008. Al recently brought the show back.
Recently venturing in to the world of radio, Al has teamed up Chris Hawk and together they have created ‘Sinsiville‘ – A comedy/soap-opera which is aired on The Sinsibles Radio. The series is often controversial, in a similar style to ‘South Park‘ or ‘Family Guy‘ (though this is not the main premise of the series) and also delves in to dramatic, and sometimes emotional storylines. The series features many of Al’s characters, including Mrs. Ellis and in it’s first season has already picked up somewhat of a cult following.
Al has of course also appeared on ‘The Happy Show!‘. He is the musical director of the show but has also made appearances as other characters (including Mrs. Ellis) and as himself.
In 2008 Al wrote and starred in the comedy/drama ‘Such Is Life‘, which was co-written by and also starred his wife.
In 2006 Al wrote and starred in two films. ‘Dying To Love’ and ‘Visible Conscience’.
Al’s earliest role was in a short film titled ‘Checkout Girl‘ when he was 17, which was aired on the UK’s Channel 4.
